Here is a recipe for baked apples that dates back to my second grade classroom. Mrs. Hogenson had a special cooking day and I can still vividly remember watching her put together these apples while we carefully copied the recipe down. This has been a simple, easy favorite ever since!
Core apples of your choice and cut in half. Lay skin side down in a baking dish. Sprinkle Red Hots (the little hard, red candy) in the well of the apples. Then pour 7-Up or Sprite (or whichever lemon lime soda you prefer) around the bottom of the apples, covering the bottom of the baking dish about 1/2 inch deep. Bake uncovered at 375 degrees for about 20 minutes (or until apples are cooked the way you like).
