A New Tree

Our beautiful redbud tree died after the terrible freeze we had in April.  It was on its 4th year and was already blooming beautifully when the freeze hit.  The main picture of our family on the home page of the family website of pictures was taken in front of that redbud last year.

Well, today we finally decided to “give it up” and get it out of the ground.  Little did we know what a feat that would be!  The roots were deep and wrapped around the trunk underground.  I guess that shows that you really are supposed to unravel the tiny roots when you plant a tree!   :)   It took quite a bit of time with the tractor, the log chain and even an ax, but we now have a beautiful new tree planted in that spot.

Muscle man!

Trying to dig up the roots of the dead redbud tree.

Our new tree - an Autumn Brilliance Serviceberry.

Using an ax on those stubborn roots.

Using the log chain on the tractor to try to pull them out.

Supervising!   :)

Pete puts his paws on your feet so you won't go away.  :)

what is left of the redbud root

weird - the roots all wrapped around the tree

roller-blading   :)

Jackson with the ax... now that is scary!  :)

Another muscle man!

finally got them out... just look at those roots on a 3 year old redbud!

putting in the new tree...

Beautiful!
