We had quite a productive day on the hill at Willis Creek Ranch. Together,
we put up 12 quart bags and 21 pint bags of freshly picked corn. Daddy, Julie,
James and Anna picked the corn this morning in the field across the road (at
our neighbor’s invitation). Then all the fellas (big and little) shucked the corn. That was no easy task considering the back of Grandpa Jack’s truck was
about half full of corn! When they had it shucked, they delivered it into
Grandma’s kitchen where Grandma, Julie, Anna and I spent the afternoon
working it up. Anna washed it in the sink, I boiled it for 2 minutes then
dunked it in ice water to cool, Julie and Mom cut the corn off the cob and we
all filled the freezer bags. As Anna said, “This corn will taste even sweeter
this winter because everyone on the whole hill helped prepare it.” It was a
marathon afternoon, but we all felt a true sense of accomplishment when we
dropped our freezer bags of yummy corn in the deep freeze. What a treat and
a comfort (for the taste buds AND for the memory) that corn will be on a
cold winter evening.
Since Anna washed corn for over 2 hours straight!!!, when we got to the last cob we decided to chronicle it! :)
First, Anna washed it,
then we boiled it,
then cooled it,
then cut the corn off the cob,
then bagged it and set it with the rest of the days’ bounty.
