We had a lot of fun today. We began by watching the DVD The Story of 1. I enjoyed it
tremendously and the boys liked it pretty well. Even Marvin sat down to join us in viewing the
movie. I would highly recommend it as a fun, interesting way to get a dose of Math History. You
can buy it at Amazon or rent it from Netflix.
We also spent some time on the solar system today. We are using several different science resources and sort of pooling them all together as they fit. Today we did the solar system notebook pages from Considering God’s Creation. Both boys enjoyed the process and we did some reading aloud from Exploring Creation with Astronomy while they worked.
This year we have sort of “thrown out all the rules”.... and you know what? It is really working for us. I feel more relaxed, they boys are more engaged and we are using all these treasures that have been collecting dust on our shelves for many years. Now don’t get me wrong... we have a “path” in mind and we are working steadily, but we are also allowing ourselves to go off on tangents when we feel like it. To further investigate an idea or concept sparked by another book or curriculum. We are making connections and asking questions and enjoying the journey. This feels to me more like it is “supposed” to feel. :)

Thanks for the reminder about the Story of 1. I heard about it years ago and then promptly forgot. I need to see if our library has it. If not, maybe an Amazon purchase is in order.
