Silver Dollar City

We just got back from spending the week at Table Rock Lake/Silver Dollar City.   We camped with Mom & Dad and Uncle Charles & Aunt Ilene.   We spent 3 days walking around Silver Dollar City enjoying the Cowboy Festival.   There were many cowboy singers and poets, bluegrass groups and all kinds of musical/singing groups.   In the evening we relaxed around the campfire, roasted s’mores and visited.

cast of the production Headin' West.

One highlight was during the Opening Ceremony on Friday.   SDC opens the park each morning with a Veterans parade around the square followed by the raising of the flag, the National Anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance.   Marvin and Charles both participated on Friday morning.   That was a special moment.  You can see a short video clip by clicking here.

Here you can see Uncle Charles feeling quite proud of himself as he serenades Aunt Ilene with “Ain’t She Sweet”!   :)   It was, truly, very sweet, indeed!   :)

The mornings were crisp and cool - like this beautiful morning at Table Rock Lake campground.

Jonathan’s birthday is coming up in a month and every once in awhile he will mention something that he might like to have as a gift for his birthday.   :)   But what I am most happy about is the gift that these boys have been given of spending time with their grandparents.... and this week, even their great-aunt & uncle!   What a privilege and an honor!   Whether the boys realize it yet or not (and I think they DO realize it as much as an 11 and 7 year old boy can) THESE are the gifts that make a difference in their lives.   The memories they created this week will bring them great joy for a lifetime.   And someday, they will again have the honor and the privilege of sitting around a campfire with their grandkids (and hopefully a great-nephew, too!) and sharing tales of when they were boys.   I remind my boys to take a good look at their Grandpa Jack, Uncle Charles and Uncle Mitch..... that someday that will be them - they will have each other.   What a blessing - across the generations!

Here are a few more photos from the trip...
