Mailboxes - 365/37

Donna took a great photo of her mailbox and posted it on her blog for Project 365.  You can go check it out here.  We got to chatting about it and she shared with me that she paints it every few years to make it look like graniteware.  Wow, I thought... not only is Donna creative, but she has actually had the same mailbox for several years??  Unfortunately, the rural road I live on is "fun boulevard for knuckleheads with baseball bats".  Every few years we get to go rebuild our mailbox station because someone knocks them down all up and down our road.  We finally decided to build this barricade around our mailboxes thinking it would curtail the problem (or at the very least, give the bat swinger a very sore arm...)  Guess what?  Last year they took out even THIS!!  They must have hit it with a truck!  I think we have become a test of their talents and it has been standing solid for a year now... could be a world record for mailbox longevity around here!

1. Hold the mailbox onto the post with just a bungee cord and then it will swing around.
OR
2. Put a smaller mailbox inside a larger one. Fill in the space between with concrete.

Love the bungee cord idea! :) And, I have to tell you, that concrete idea has been passed around up here before..... It would certainly be a surprise, wouldn't it? (evil grin)

Don't know how to save your mailboxes, but wanted to say that I LOVE the photo. Love the textures, love the rural Americana feel, love the browns and tans against the blue of the sky. The pole and wires even add something. Great angle. Great photo!
