Apple picking

Gita and I took the kids to West Orchard for an afternoon of apple picking.  We had a great time and got a couple bushels of yummy, fresh apples for $20 per bushel.  You can't beat that!  We have always liked this orchard and were so glad they were able to have a crop this year.  Last year they lost all their crop following the April freeze... it killed everything and they didn't even open last year.  Thankfully, they were able to hold on and keep themselves going by starting a winery.  This year they have a pretty solid crop, in spite of all the flooding rains we have had.  West Orchard has a variety of apples, plums, peaches, pears, nectarines, and apricots.  We picked primarily Jonagold apples, although we got a few Honeycrisp.

Here are some photos from the afternoon.

This looks like so fun! It will be fun to read what you do with all your bounty. I miss having orchards nearby......but I can love via blogs. LOL

I remember going to orchards when I was young. I wish I could take our kids. Maybe someday.

This looks like a fun day! Have you ever tried freezing apples? My friend's mom freezes apple pies unbaked, so I think I'll try this year--our tree is loaded. :)
