Catching up...

Here are some miscellaneous tidbits from the last week.

Jonathan and Grandpa enjoyed the draft horse events at the fair so much that they could hardly wait to get home and hitch up Dick and Bob, our Haflingers.  Jonathan especially wanted to take his friend, Zack, for a ride.  :)  So, of course, they got right to it.  Here they are enjoying a ride on the wagon pulled by Dick and Bob.  Zack was able to come by later and join them.

We have been having such lovely sunsets the last few weeks.  We kept commenting on them and taking tons of photos.  Finally, I got an email from Space Weather telling me the reason.

“Sky watchers across the USA and Europe are reporting unusually colorful sunsets and sunrises. The cause appears to be the August 7th eruption of the Kasatochi volcano in Alaska's Aleutian islands. The volcano hurled a massive cloud of ash and sulfur dioxide into the stratosphere; high winds have since carried the aerosols over parts of the USA and Europe. "Violet domes," long pink rays crossing the sky, campfire-red aureoles around Venus--these are just a few of the sights documented on Spaceweather.com in recent days. When the sun goes down tonight, look west. You may be in for a treat.”

We have a bunch more photos... but apparently they are all on Jackson's camera.  :)

Then Daddy and Mama got a new car.  Ever since Mom got her Aveo last fall she has told Daddy that she didn't care what car he got.  He as always wanted a Cadillac, but has felt sort of funny about getting one, I think.  Thinking it would be a little ostentatious or something.  Well, their Buick was getting pretty high mileage and it was time to trade on something.  Daddy had decided on an Impala and they went to test drive it fully expecting to love and drive it home.  But it didn't work out that way.  It just wasn't a fit for them.  However, the dealership just happened (this dealer is no dummy, huh?) to have a 2008 Cadillac on the lot with a great deal - only $2000 more than the Impala!  They test drove it and loved it but came home without it.  I think that again, Daddy just felt a little funny about finally getting a Cadillac!

The funny thing is that Marvin probably helped spur on the rest of this story.  He was talking to Mama about the cars and the fact that they really did need to trade in the Buick (especially with the many miles they travel each year) and that they should consider the fact that the Cadillac was a far better deal, plus the car would be more comfortable for all their time spent on the road.  It must have hit home because they went back to the dealership and bought the Cadillac!  And it really is a super nice car.  The boys are thrilled that it has a sunroof and love the black color.  (Daddy and Mama have always had red Buicks to the black is definitely something different)  But something tells me that Dady is going to have to "ease into" owning a Cadillac.  The first night they had ti they went to the Pear Tree restaurant for the annual anniversary dinner with a bunch of his cousins from Shelbina and instead of showing off the new car, they parked a ways from the restaurant and walked... never saying a WOR to anyone about their new car!  Too funny!  Poor Daddy, he loves having the Cadillac, but he may be too embarrassed to drive it in public!  :)

I think Jonathan likes it  :)

It gets Anna's seal of approval, also!  :)
