Well phooey. What began as a quick and easy fall cleaning task just turned in to a big, costly job. Ugh. We had noticed that the upstairs bedroom window had a bit of mildew on the inside portion at the bottom. Honestly, we have been running so crazy this summer that we never got around to going up to Clorox it.... until today. Marvin decided it would be a good opportunity to just pop the window out and really give it a good cleaning. This window is the north facing window that gets ALL the horrendous weather (and we have had more than our share of driving rain this summer!). Well, when he popped it out, we discovered this....
That mildew was actually mold and the board is basically rotten! It just crumbled. Ugh. Well, that got our attention and we put down our little spray bottle of Clorox and began checking all the other upstairs windows. Yup.... there is one more just like this one. Looks like both storm windows will have to be completely replaced. A couple other windows aren’t in horrible shape (yet), but they definitely had some spots we are going to have to work on. Why on earth is this happening with our windows? We have never had this kind of trouble before. It HAS been an unbelievably wet summer.... in fact it is raining again as I write this! After we got that 13 inches of rain in July we had a leak in our foyer ceiling.... another first for us in this house. I am thinking we are just getting waterlogged!
Of course, the boys thought it was WAY cool to be allowed to climb out of the window onto the porch roof. The boys have already decided that maybe we don’t NEED to replace the storm window... after all, they might just want to sit out there on the porch roof at any given time. Uh... no. This will be a short lived adventure. :)

Ugh, always like a Pandora's box when you work on the house. Hope you can get it all fixed up quickly.

Oh, what a pain. But looks like your boys are making the best of it. :) Did you get more rain the past few days? We've had 6 inches since yesterday.
Good to finally get caught up on reading your blog. :)
