Memorial Day

We hadn’t had enough of family togetherness over the weekend in Springfield, so we gathered together again on Memorial Day to grill hamburgers and roast marshmallows.  :
This time we met at Julie’s house and I enjoyed looking at all of her beautiful flowers.  You know, we all have our talents.... my talent is admiring plants and flowers at OTHER peoples houses.  Unfortunately, Marvin and I are quite adept at killing plants and flowers at our own house.  We are the only people I know who have annual perennials!  Ugh.  Anyway, when Julie walks us around her yard and gives us ideas we get all excited.  Especially when she says, “This is basically classified as a virulent weed, it will take over your flower bed.”  We say, “That is for US! Maybe we can’t kill that!!!”  (side note.... uh... it appears that yes we can!)

Julie assuring us we can't kill whatever she is pointing at.  (We usually prove her wrong...)  :D

Here are some of Julie’s beautiful flowers.  I don’t know what they are.... besides living!

While we walked around looking at flowers the boys were helping Anna with a ceremonial fire.  :)  She had cleaned out her locker at school so was burning much of her freshman year of high school busy work and worksheets.  Quite cathartic from the looks of it.  Even my little guy got in on the fun.

Of course, Memorial Day brings so many sacrifices to mind.  And certainly, I think of my own dear husband and now, my nephew who is currently serving.  I DVR’d the PBS Memorial Day tribute (since we were just coming back in town Sunday night when it aired.)  I truly enjoy that particular special - and I ALWAYS cry when they bring out each section of the armed forces with their uniforms, flags, song and gallantry - inviting all current and former members in the audience to stand with them.  That always gets me.  I love pomp and circumstance.

We noticed the clouds rolling in.  Storm coming... but the clouds were beautiful.  They almost looked like mountains in the background.  I definitely decided to take some shots.

Coming home I had to stop and take this photo, too.  Beautiful, isn’t it?  Of course, Jackson was thrilled that I was stopping in the road to take the picture.   :)

so lovely!!!

OH you take the most gorgeous sky photos!!  I had to laugh at your comment about the annual perennials--I bought 3 new perennials last year and was shocked when they came up again this spring.  They're huge!  Definitely a first for me.  lol.
