Dinner and a... mural?

Tuesday evening we, along with Mom & Daddy and Julie, attended the Truman State University NEMO Alumni Chapter dinner.  We enjoyed the evening tremendously and joked that it was a wonderful way for our family to get together for dinner without anyone having to cook!  :)  Along with the yummy meal, we got to hear the student a-cappella group True Men perform.  We have followed this group since their inception back in 1997 and they continue to be a very talented group of young men.  I recorded a short video clip but have yet to upload it, so if you want to hear them, go to their website linked above and listen to a couple tracks.  I recommend "Crazy Love" and "National Anthem".

After the dinner we went upstairs in the Student Union Building to be sure that the William Unger mural hadn't been messed up during the renovation of the building.  Good thing, it wasn't!  I love this mural!  I remember the year it was painted... 1975.  William Unger was a fine arts professor at Truman (then NMSU) and was commissioned to paint the mural in the style of Thomas Hart Benton. The mural commemorates the 1976 United States Bicentennial and depicts 200 years of US history.  I have always been fascinated by this work of art.  Here are just a few snippets from the mural.

Me too!! :)It really is cool close up. There is SO much to see in there. You can literally look at it for hours. It runs the entire length of the upstairs hall about 60 feet or so!

Wow, I never knew about this mural! Maybe we can stop in and see it sometime. It is very similar to the Benton mural at the state capitol.

Donna -Yes, you'll just have to come visit us and we can take you to the mural! :A lot of folks mistakenly think it really IS by Thomas Hart Benton. We found that out this summer when we attended a talk about Thomas Hart Benton at the Missouri State Fair. When we said where we were from the man stated that he was often asked about "Benton's mural at Truman". :William Unger did an amazing job of mimicking Benton, didn't he?
