Contemplating Curriculum

As I said on that other blog entry, I am in major list making mode.  One of my favorites, however, is my list of items to be thinking about for school next year (to look at when I go to the homeschool conference in June).  That is always a fun list.  I don't have a big list.. primarily looking at enhancing our art/music.  I really like the looks of David Quine's Adventures in Art, but it looks like it is out of print?  Does anyone know where to find this?  I also like his Music and Moments curriculum.  I plan to take a closer look at the conference.

I am also excited about attending a Tapestry Tea at Susan's house next week to take a closer look at Tapestry of Grace.  Gita and I will be driving down together, so that will be a fun day all around.

One thing about being a reformed curriculum junkie is that I always have something that I can pull off of my shelf and feel like I just got something new.  :)  Sad, but true.  Most recently, I am pulling out Spell to Write and Read.  Jackson and I had used Writing Road to Reading (tweaked to suit us) with quite a bit of success, so I just assumed that I would use the same with Jonathan.  We have been working on that on and off this year and (surprise, surprise) it does not work with him.  He loves the phonograms - and has learned them well.  He does pretty well with the spelling rules.  But Jackson and I were way too "loose" with the dictation/spelling process.  Jonathan needs STRUCTURE!  This brings me to SWR.  I had bought this back when Jackson and I were doing WRTR because everyone told me it was so much easier to implement.  But, we didn't actually have a problem so I ended up deciding not to try to fix what wasn't broken.  Of course, I decided that AFTER I had purchased SWR.  (sheesh)  But, I now think it is just the thing for Jonathan.  I have been going through the manuals with my trusty highlighter and taking notes in my notebook.  Hoping to begin the new, structured version next week!  :)
