PW Apple Dumplings

Since I am such a big fan of Pioneer Woman I am constantly scanning her cooking site for new things to try.  I made this yummy dessert the other night.  It was quick and easy and was a hit with everyone in the family.  I did cut down on the sugar and butter, though.  It would have been WAY too sweet for us otherwise.

2 Granny Smith apples
2 cans crescent rolls
2 sticks butter  *(I cut this down to 1 1/2 sticks - could go down to 1 stick, I think)
1 1/2 cups sugar  *(I cut this amount down to 3/4 cup)
1 teaspoon vanilla
cinnamon
1 can Mountain Dew

Peel and core apples. Cut apples into 8 slices each. Roll each apple slice in a crescent roll. Place in a 9 x 13 buttered pan. Melt butter, then add sugar and barely stir. Add vanilla, stir, and pour over apples. Pour Mountain Dew around the edges of the pan. Sprinkle with cinnamon and bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. Serve with ice cream, and spoon some of the sweet sauces from the pan over the top.
